TABC tax ID stamps have a new design, same old rules apply

The Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission redesigned the tax ID stamps to include a QR code.

Along with the new design arose rumors that retailers no longer have to destroy the tax ID stamp before emptying and disposing of the bottle. That is not accurate.

Retailers are still responsible for sufficiently

destroying the new stamp so it can’t be reused.

If you possess the older design, you should continue to use those stamps as they are still valid. For the foreseeable future, you’ll likely see a mixture of old tax ID stamps and new stamps on bottles in your local restaurants and bars.
